The 2007WFP definitely has some serious banding issues, especially when running through the DVI port. The more tests and more comparisons i run on the display, the more unhappy i become with it.
I am going to test the DVI output with a new cable from Data Pro when it arrives and will make my decision then about sending it back.
My advice to anyone who is thinking about purchasing this panel would be to wait, or look elsewhere. The sad truth is that Dell will probably never come out and confirm this issue.

I'm looking at getting this monitor in a month or so as the !st step towards a new system.
However due to lack of funding this will be a long term build. Will I be able to run this monitor wih my current graphics card?
Hurcules ATI Radeon 8500
The only games I play regularly are sims2 and football manager 2006.
Cheers
Scott

Just got my 2007 today as well, and I must say I'm impressed. I'm coming from a 17 in. Samsung CRT and this is definitely a step up. Love having all this screen realestate. After testing it out a bit I found that I have NO dead or stuck pixels, very good viewing angles, and yes some banding is visible. Considering how much time it took me to decide on this LCD, I doubt that I'll send it back unless the banding really gets to me. On the other hand, I'm not a graphics professional either, so perhaps I'm not as critical. Probably the biggest nuisance is that a lot of my videos now show artifacting more clearly than when I was using my lower-res and somewhat blurry CRT. Maybe I'll post some pics later.
Scott, I think as long as you're using fairly recent Catalyst drivers you should be ok. My roomate is using a 9500 Pro with his 2005wfp LCD just fine.

I really want a 2007WFP, how bad is the banding? Is it something that can be solved through a firmware or driver update or from adjusting the settings? I'm an average gamer who watches a lot of movies and digital TV through my PC. The 2007WFP looks ideal for me as it has s-video inputs for games consoles and has had positive reviews so far. Why have no reviews picked up on this problem, is it only on a hand full of monitors? I would get the Gateway 21â€Â

To me it looks about as bad as putting your graphics card in 16bit mode. No solutions yet. Appears to be much worse in DVI mode:

Here is what it should look like. Every second line is smooth continuous tone:
Here is the 2007WFP via DVI:

Any ideas on how to access the advanced service menu for the 2007WFP? I tried the method for the 2405FPW/2001FP, but that did not work.
Yes, the gradient banding is pretty bad when connected through DVI. Very minimal when connected through VGA.

Do you think that there will eventually be a fix? I just ordered one and am planning on ordering another in a few months. I primarily do web development, and 3d work, so banding could end up being a slight problem. If I only have to deal with it for a few months until a fix comes out I am happy, but if this is a big problem without a fix, well when I get it I will run some tests and see. The other thing I suppose if it isn't as bad in VGA I can hook it up using the analog cable, my X850xt came with an adapter.
This is my first post here, wow. This community is amazing, great information about everything!

They never fixed the backlight bleeding problem with the previous model, the 2005FPW, so given their track record, I don't know how likely it is that they will fix the gradient banding problem on the 2007WFP.

I am not all too sure what the backlight bleeding is, but for me I never run with the lights off, strains the eyes too much, I always have my desk lamp on. If it is as bad as those photos though, the banding might end up posing a larger than expected problem.

I've tried a higher quality DVI cable with the 2007WFP and the banding is still an issue.
If enough people start returning their 2007s, maybe Dell might take notice.
I'm definitely sending mine back, because the banding makes the display defective imho.
I'd really like to know how this problem got past the testing phase..

Dell doesn't actually build LCD panels, someone does that for them, and I doubt Dell could even be bothered to test.
Dell is like the Walmart of computer goods. They look for the cheapest supplier and tell them to make it cheaper if they want to keep the buisness.
The result is crap. People just keep going back to Dellmart and eventually all you can get is crap. But hey it is cheaper than good stuff.

I to have noticed Banding. When I get home I will trying the Banding app and update you with my results.
The banding isnt a large issue for gaming, as I dont notice it. however I have noticed slight banding in videos/DVD's. And for a Professional Artist/developer I could see this being a problem.
In my case It does sound alot worse then it really is. As I sit at leat 2meters back from the Screen while watching videos it isnt evident.

Just got home a check out the banding tool. I also have banding as you suggested but to be honest I would have to expect some sort of banding especially in a manufacturing process far from perfect. I realize this is part of the Technology and sure there are some panels out there that are better in terms of banding but I even tested that banding tool at work on a 17" Viewsonic LCD and banding wasnt an issue however this Dell does have superior image quality.
I wouldnt go as far to say that the banding is as bad as putting your desktop to 16bit (65k).
