I have edited/condensed this solution to make it easier to follow ... sorry to all that may have lost posts ... Paddywak

Right click on your Battlefield 2 icon on the desktop, click on properties on the part where it says target, add +szx 19200 +szy 1200. So it looks like this ...

"C:\Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

You can use whatever widescreen resolution you desire ... just change the 1920 and 1200 for your desired resolution
You should be able to tell what res ur running at, to check use FRAPS and take a pic to confirm.

You must use this shortcut. In other words don't let the cd autoplay or it wont work. Double click the shortcut on your desktop.

Note: changing the FOV setting in the ... VideoDefault.con ... DOES NOT change the FOV and may stop your game from working at all ...

Please follow this link for discussion about the solution.

Here's some screenshots ... I have scaled them down (even when enlarged) so most people can see the whole image on there screens.
Click on the thumbnail to enlarge ...
Normal 4x3

4x3 stretched ... it's all soft and squashed ...

1920x1200 ... looks great BUT the top and bottom are cut off !

If you are not happy with this fix how about contacting Dice to let them know ... see this thread ...

Just a note, the shortcut fix alone did NOT work for me straight off. Regardless of shortcut parameters, the game would exit to desktop right after the logo splash screen. After a bit of searching around I was able to fix the problem.

Since I had been running the game on my CRT before I installed my flatscreen, I had the following line in my "My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\Video.con" file:
VideoSettings.setResolution 1600x1200@75Hz

I didn't think to look in "My Documents" but luckily found a post by someone else that had resolved this issue. You can either change this line to something like 800x600@60Hz, or just stick "rem " in front of the whole mess so that it is ignored by BF2. (You'll be overriding it with shortcut parameters anyway)

Good luck.

For those of you who want to play BF2 mods in a widescreen resolution here's a solution:

Code:
"\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/<MOD_FOLDER_NAME> +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

For example, to get the CO-OP mod(folder name "/COOP_30") to work, I had to use this:
Code:
"\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/COOP_30 +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Just make sure that the "+modPath mods/" part is the first thing after the quotation marks, and it should work. ;)

As reported elsewhere, this works in the same manner for BF2142.

This just in from dopefish ... 8)

I wrote this program a long time ago but never released it. This hack will adjust the FOV on-the-fly so you have regular Hor+ play.

Note: This is for single player only. Use of this during multiplayer matches on Punkbuster-enabled servers may get you in trouble. Use at your own risk.

Instructions are included in the zip file.

Download

Here are some images to compare:

1280x960 - Hack disabled - BF2142.exe +widescreen 0 +szx 1280 +szy 960
Image

1536x960 - Hack disabled - BF2142.exe +widescreen 1 +szx 1536 +szy 960
Image

1536x960 - Hack enabled - BF2142.exe +widescreen 1 +szx 1536 +szy 960
Image

You'll notice that in the second image, not only do you lose vertical viewing area, you actually lose some horizontal viewing area as well. In the third image, you can overlay the first image directly on top of it and see the added horizontal viewing perfectly.
