My first post here, just wanted to let people know there is , in fact, a solution to Diablo II.

Many people do not seem to realize it so I wanted to share it with the world since the author of this hack obviously put a huge amount of effort into it.

Here it is, the diablo 2 multires mod

http://files.filefront.com/D2MultiRes+v ... einfo.html

Have fun, it makes it into a whole new game. Just make sure you use Vista if you are getting slowdowns.

Slowdowns seems unavoidable on XP in some areas, but are minimal when using Windows Vista. Kinda of weird, but true.

Also, disregard using software rendering, the dx rendering works fine and looks FAR better. The author recommends only using software, but he is wrong.

The game will run smoothly on Vista or Windows 7. Maybe it has something to do with hard drive access. I dont know, but my rig is a
3.2 intel quad at 1600 FSB and a GTX 260, and thats the best guess I could come up with for the speed issues.

Thanks for the help on this one. Will need to get a DR from someone (hint, hint). And note, while this is great for solo play. It will probably get you booted form Battle.Net.

mfuhreck sent me some pics.

The game appears pixel based to me. Would love to see this in Wide Surround. May have to pick this up from Amazon. Never did finish it.

The FileFront link died. I found it on another site, and hosted it here:

I had some fairly serious texture corruption issues when trying this using DirectX support rather than software. Haven't tried it with the latest Catalyst drivers yet, though.

Still, it was fun to play Diablo 2 again in a res other than 800x600 or 640x480.

edit:

Got a PM that might have a solution for that texture corruption I mentioned...

Did you have catalyst AI on? It screws up textures in many older games.

Ah, yes, I did. I need Cat AI on otherwise Crossfire doesn't work.

Interesting. I'll give it a shot with it off and see what happens.

Thanks to Stormwatcher for the possible fix there! :D

This is the link I found the mod at before I even tried coming to WSGF: http://hellforge.gameriot.com/blogs/Hel ... Resolution

I just wanted to say that the mod works fine for me.
I have a ATI HD4870 and my monitor is 22" 1680x1050.
I am using XP SP2.

I have to run it in DirectDraw because I get terrible artifacts in DirextX. I tried disabling Catalyst AI as you suggested but that didn't fix it.

But it works great in DirectDraw anyway.
The fps get locked at 25 but that is due to the way the game is coded. But at that fps it is very playable and I have had no slowdowns at all. And that was all through act 1.
