Hi, i made this topic for severals reasons :

- The WideScreen solution is not exactly the same as Quake 3
- The console is only reachable using the "CTRL"+"ALT"+"~" combination
- I love DooM series 8)

ok so here is the solution :

Edit the \base\DoomConfig.cfg file
Set the "seta r_mode" to "-1" in order to enable custom res
Set the "r_customHeight" and "r_customWidth" as you want
Add "g_fov" and set it as you want

*Set the file to ready-only in order to keep the FOV setting*

I didn't find the way to make the "g_fov" command stay in the file, the game erase it at the exit

I play in 1280x800 so it looks like this for me :

seta r_customHeight "800"
seta r_customWidth "1280"
seta g_fov "100"
seta r_mode "-1"

And the result :

To get fov to stay you need to change the "target" link in the Doom3 desktop icon properties to "C:\Program Files\Doom 3\Doom3.exe" seta g_fov "100" or what ever your perfered fov is and the game wil start with that fov everytime..

Have you altered the Aspect Ratio ?

In the readme for the Doom3 1.1 Patch ...

Quote:
RENDERING
- r_aspectRatio now uses 0, 1, or 2 (4:3, 16:9, 16:10)

So in the DoomConfig.cfg edit the line seta r_aspectRatio "0" line for your screen ratio. .... 2

Hope it helps ... :D

Hello ...
I found that my cfg wouldn't save until I ran the "Scan Hardware and Select Optimal Video Quality" in the games video options at least once ...
I briefly played the game at those settings ... and then I was able to change the cfg without it reverting back.

Also, make sure you don't forget this step:

To get fov to stay you need to change the "target" link in the Doom3 desktop icon properties to "C:\Program Files\Doom 3\DOOM3.exe" seta g_fov "110"

Not sure if that was a typo on your part, but the customHeight should be 1200 and the customWidth 1920, not the other way around.

lol

Yes, I double checked my actual files and they were typed correctly so it was just when I posted this that it was incorrect and I am still unable to chage to any custom res whatsoever.

Any help would be appreciated.

***EDIT***

Looking back over the things I tried I noticed that I had left out the (seta r_mode "-1") when attempting the autoexec fix.

I have bound F10 to execute the autoexec & F11 to the video restart command.

It’s working now as long as I press F10/11 when I start or load a game, thanks again for your patience.

*END*EDIT*

I'm still debating the need of an FoV adjustment with Doom 3, but maybe someone else can look at these shots and help explain what the game is doing. It does seem to be adjusting some things based on aspect ratio.

This is 1280x1024 (5:4) with normal aspect ratio settings
Image

This is 1280x800 (16:10) with no change to the default FOV
Image

And finally, 1280x800 at a 115 FoV
Image

The first 1280x800 shot seems to contain everything the top one does, and expands the sides a bit as one would expect.

I'd appreciate feedback, as I'm debating how to add FoV adjustment to Game Resolution Switcher.

Firstly have you got the latest patch for the game ... here ...
http://www.3dgamers.com/games/doom3/downloads/

Then make sure these lines are changed in your config ...

seta r_customHeight "1050"
seta r_customWidth "1680"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectRatio "2"

If the config keeps changing back then you must run the ...
"Scan Hardware and Select Optimal Video Quality" in the games display setup and exit the game ...
go back into the game and play a bit ... exit ...
THEN do the changes to the config.

There's no need for the FOV change as the ... seta r_aspectRatio "2" sorts out the correct view for you and the config file deletes the FOV entries anyway.
If you really really feel that you want to alter the FOV you can do this by adding the seta g_fov "100" (or any other value) to the target in the Doom3 desktop shortcut properties...

".... \Doom 3\Doom3.exe" seta g_fov "100"

Hope this helps ... :D

You can also just open the console with ctrl+alt+~ and run the commands though there, juat enter a line at a time:

r_customHeight "1050"
r_customWidth "1680"
r_mode "-1"
r_aspectRatio "2"

and to make the changes take effect:

vid_restart

It won't change the resolution in the system menu to the res you changed in the cfg. I'm not sure why your changes are not saving, maybe you could try making the cfg read-only. Have you changed r_customHeight to 800, r_customWidth to 1280, r_mode to -1 and r_aspectRatio to 2?

Make sure your monitor supports this resolution 1280 x 800.. my dell 24" doesn't.. it does support 1280 x 768 however.. it is 16:10 ratio. It works. thanks a lot!
