Since Sims 2 support all of wide screen resolution up to 1600 x 1200 out of the box, there is no special tweak / patch need for wide screen support under 1600 x 1200.

However it did not support resolution higher than 1600 x 1200 out of the box, we have to edit a file to add 1920 x 1080 and 1920 x 1200 support.

1. Search of this file
<drive and folder you install sims 2>\TSData\Res\Config\Graphics Rules.sgr

2. Open this file by notepad

3. Search of these string :

option ScreenModeResolution
setting $Low
uintProp maxResWidth 800
uintProp maxResHeight 600
uintProp defaultResWidth 800
uintProp defaultResHeight 600

setting $Medium
uintProp maxResWidth 1280
uintProp maxResHeight 1024
uintProp defaultResWidth 1024
uintProp defaultResHeight 768

setting $High
uintProp maxResWidth 1600
uintProp maxResHeight 1200
uintProp defaultResWidth 1024
uintProp defaultResHeight 768
end

change all value with "maxResWidth" to 1920 and "maxResHeight" to 1200, like this

" setting $High
uintProp maxResWidth 1920
uintProp maxResHeight 1200
uintProp defaultResWidth 1920
uintProp defaultResHeight 1200 "

defaultResWidth and defaultResHeight is to define what resolution will be use by default, you change change it to 1920 and 1200 if you don't want to wait until change it in the game.

It works.

I've changed all those resolution values in Graphics Rules.sgr to 1920x1200, and in game menu 1920x1080 as well as 1920x1200 became available.

Thanks again to killercheung for the info. :)

Cheers.

While The Sims 2 does not stretch, it does look like that the game supports widescreen by cutting off the top and bottom, rather than adding to the left and right.

I posted some pics on the screenshot section showcasing the differences between fullscreen and widescreen in this game.

I was going crazy trying to get it to work. The deal is, if you have installed any expansions, then you need to change the Graphics Rules.sgr file of the last expansion you installed.

For example, I have Open for Business so I'd go to

C:\games\sims 2 open for business\TSData\Res\COnfig\Graphic Rules.sgr instead of searching for c:\games\sims2\TSdata\....
