there was a thread that had this topic earlier, but the links to the thread that supposedly fixed the problem were inactive.

so i am wondering if it is possible to get that information so i can play warcraft 3 in glorious widescreen format.

(im new to this board)

I don't know what's happened to the original thread. That's odd, though. :?

Two registry keys you have to edit: (as always, don't touch the registry if you don't know what you're doing!!!)

Find:
Code:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III\Video
then
Code:
reswidth = xxxx
and
Code:
resheight = yyyy
change xxxx and yyyy to whatever your screen width and height are (eg: xxxx=1680 yyyy=1050, etc) you can change the cinematic res, too, but I didn't see the point.

Oh, and one final point, the game is stretched. Sad but true.

Welcome to the forum. :D

OK, to get into the registry:

Start -> Run -> type "regedit" (without the quotes) -> hit Enter.

Use Find (Edit -> Find) to locate the registry key mentioned above (or you can navigate to it manually)...

Follow the rest of the second post. Again; editing the registry is at your own risk!

If you're using XP, might be an idea to set a System Restore Point first, just in case.

Not having WC3 yet, I can't say for sure, but doing this hack seems to make the game actually display at said resolution albeit with a skewed FOV.

What your monitor and video card does when stretching lowers image quality by interpolating the pixels. Things become more blurry.

Because native 1680x1050 will look better than 1024x768 stretched to fill 1680x1050, or 1400x1050 stretched wide. Warcraft 3 has a fixed FOV, so there isn't much more that can be done.

I see there was already a post about this general issue.

Ahh well, I guess it would be good just to mention that it doesn't change the FOV on the initial solution post, and that it will stretch it. Maybe mention some other good resolutions for a particular game, i know my system doesn't generally like 1680x1050 (geforce 5600 :( ).
