I you have a look at Samsung UK's site you will see that they refer to 16.7m colours rather than US' s which refers to 16.2m.
For myself I believe that 16.7 is correct - BUT probably only after 'dithering' ( an expression/technical term that I have read about and which ,as I understand it, is used to make a monitor normally capable of running 16.2m colours run 16.7m)

It is possible that the uk version is different from the us version (in addition to being of a different colour) but the spec sheets are near identical.

If my understanding of the spec and the interpretation thereof is correct (16.2 dithered to 16.7) then the panel used is I believe 6 bit. ( BUT I am no technical expert and could well be proven wrong - I have not seen any review which has given an accurate answer to the question!!)

I've just received this display, and I must say I'm rather impressed, save the 7 dead pixels I have! This is another sequel in the widescreen saga I'm involved in - first I got Acer 1916ws, the monitor went berserk after six months of use, with 3 bright stripes appearing in top right corner: after repair and the recurrence of the stripe thingy, I was offered my money back, but I decided to shell out 100 more euros and get LG 204wt - it had a faulty DVI so I said to myself wtf, I'll get Samsung! And now this... I'm starting to think I'm cursed somehow....

Back to the particular monitor - picture is very good (DVI), colours are fine, font kerning excellent, viewing angles very decent, no backlight bleeding... So I'll go back the shop and see if they have one without bad pixels, dammit...

I have an unordinary question...

Since this monitor is equipped with HDCP, what resolutions can it hit? I know the 2007XX model Dell can only hit 480p, the newest NEC can hit up to 1080i. This is sort of a deal breaker for me since this monitor will double as my PS3 "television." :P

I have my ps2 connected to it, and cannot by any means suggest it for any of the other inputs, I tried plugging my dvd player into with little success as well. It just looks horrible.

What was wrong with your monitor and what do you use now?

It was not possible for me to slouch at all and see the same colors on the panel. As a matter of fact, it wasn't possible to sit in the same spot and see the same colors on the panel. The Dell 2007WFP's S-IPS sits on my desk now and has NO color shift whatsoever. I can view it from the left, right, or way below in mega slouching mode w/ no change in brightness or color. Also, I can turn the monitor without turning the base, something the round turntable on the Sammy never managed to do very well. Considering I got all that for $25 bucks more... :D :D

Of course now some of them are S-PVA, so you might have to go through a returning process a couple times.

Jodiuh: Ok, so the problem was viewing angle. And you are not sitting straight when using your computer. I understand that. For me the Dell is not an option. The store where I work doesn't sell Dell monitors. Actually there is not many, if any, vendors who sell Dell. But then again, I have no complaints of my Samsung.

Not necessarily viewing angle, more color shifting. Even while looking perfectly straight at the monitor, I would see the blue bars of this forum or the red bars of hardforum start out bright, then darker towards the center, and finally brighter at the end. Games would have varying levels of darkness and tonal shift, movies would look inconsistent. It bugged the hell out of me. Also, the colors looked much more natural than the Samsung's tendency towards brighter/neon colors. I ordered the 2007WFP from dell.com and got it under a week for slightly more $ than the Sammy.

Oh, so maybe it was just a bad panel then... 'Cos mine works just fine.

I went through 2 and compared to another in the store. It wasn't a bad panel, but a limitation of the PVA/MVA technology. Here's some pics on hardforum to demonstrate...

Now I get it. But still, as long as my Sammy works, it works. It is really not so important to me. As long as there are no dead pixels I'm happy.

Hi all, i recently ordered this monitor and was wondering if my 6800 Ultra would support it well? I read on the first page that a 5950 was used on it.

I play games such as Call of Duty UO, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4, Oblivion, and was wondering how gaming is with this monitor?

I am planning to upgrade to a Nvidia 8 series card in the summer, but just wondering how this monitor would hold out with my current card until then.

Thanks in advance
