Introduction
If you are getting random crashes and you're clueless what it could be. You did already did a re-install of your OS? You can try to see if it is your ram. Here is a "how to" ... for checking your RAM
Things you need
- A computer that can boot
- A cd-burner
- A cd (to burn the program on)
- Lot's of patience
- Memtest86 (Author site)
Step by Step
Download the latest Memtest86, burn the iso on a cd.
Reboot your computer and set your bios to boot your CD/DVD drive in order for the program to run(the boot sequence). Then insert the cd in the CD/DVD drive and reboot your computer. Wait until the program starts.
Then let the program running over night.
WARNING: Don't forget to turn your computer off.
Conclusion
If no errors occurred then your ram is fine. If you get errors it's time to get more information. Open your computer case, and look for ram modules. Look to see how many ram modules you have. If you have 1 module, then your out of luck, because if you remove the ram you can't use your computer any more. If you have more than 1 ram module, then you have to test them separately. If 1 ram module displays the error, you are in luck and you can replace that ram module in your computer.
If your ram has a warranty then you should be able to get it replaced ... if not you will have to buy another ram module.
