Vert -

Definition

Vert -, or vertical minus, refers to a behavior specific to certain games that support both 4:3 resolutions and widescreen resolutions. A vert - game is a game that when played on a widescreen monitor with a widescreen resolution, decreases the vertical component of the FOV. The aspect ratio is generally correct, there is little or no stretching or distortion. This is often unappealing to widescreen users, as it reduces the area of the picture available to them.

If a game is normally vert - but has a command to increase the overall FOV, the FOV can be manually increased to the point where the vertical component is back to its original state and the horizontal component is increased. However, this is somewhat of a hack, and may result in anomalies.

Examples

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is vert - when widescreen is enabled.
