Description
Here is the info for patching Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic with the WS and HUD patches, so that the game will run properly in widescreen.
Patching
WS Resolutions
The game plays in Hor+ widescreen with the use of the UniWS patcher, originally developed by Wogg. The Patcher consists of two parts: The uniws.exe (which is the GUI interface and patcher), and the patches.ini file (which contains the game data to make the patch). You can download both here: uniws.zip. Patch the game to work at your native resolution, and to have a HUD of 1024x768.

HUD Correction
Malakaius figured out how to hack the HUD files and set the proper placement for the GUI items. Stevedroid has created HUD files for all of the common widescreen resolutions as well as corrected the 2D backgrounds. Many thanks to both of them, without whom this would not be possible. Download the appropriate file from the below links. Unzip the file, and place it in the "Override" directory in your KOTOR install.

---Description---
The provided files fix the alignment of the HUD icons, tooltips, and the 2D menu backgrounds (for the inventory, pazaak, store, etc.) for most standard widescreen resolutions.
---Installation---
1. Using UniWS, choose the [1024x768 Interface] option and patch KOTOR to your desired widescreen resolution.
2. Move all files from the folder matching your resolution to the "Override" directory under your main KOTOR installation directory.
3. That's it; you can run the game normally. Enjoy.
---Notes---
-Due to crashing or a missing text issue, KOTOR can not be run at standard widescreen resolutions below 1440x900. For users of 720p HDTVs (most of which have an actual native resolution of 1360x768), I suggest creating a custom resolution of 1530x864 (a relatively uniform 1.125 scaling) and using video card scaling to downscale to 1360x768. You would then patch KOTOR to 1530x864, not 1360x768, of course. Files have been provided for this resolution. For 1280x800 users, the same solution of setting up a custom resolution and downscaling will work; 1440x900 would be an appropriate choice in that case.
-The highest resolution KOTOR normally supports is 1600x1200. Therefore, 1600x1200 was highest resolution available for the 2D backgrounds. My fixed 2D backgrounds are merely recentered versions of the original source art. For resolutions with a width greater than 1600, I simply filled in the blank space with black because I don't have art skills. The menu backgrounds are plain image files (TGA format), so if you do have some art skills, you may be able to fill in the blank space with something a bit better looking. Please share them if you do.
