Widescreen Method

From WSGFWiki

The WSGF is all about figuring out how to get games to work in widescreen. When we're forunate, games work natively. When we're not, then they take a little work. Below is a short description of each widescreen method. To see all the games in a particular method, please click on the header.

Native

A game whose widescreen method is "Native" is a game where enabling widescreen can be done entirely from the ingame options menus. A game can only be considered "Native" if there is no way to improve the widescreen support externally. For example, if a game supports widescreen resolutions natively, but is vert - this way, and it is possible to make it hor + via editing the .ini file, it can not be considered a native game.

.ini

Games under this category have widescreen solutions that require editing human-readable text files. More detailed information can be found in the .ini_(Widescreen_method) article.

Cmd Line

This category lists the games that achieve widescreen support by adding strings or variables to the command line. This is generally done by editing the shortcut to the game. More detailed information can be found the Command line (Widescreen method) article.

Console

This category lists the games that achieve widescreen support by entering commands in the "game console" after the game is running. More detailed information can be found in the Console (Widescreen method) article.

Registry

This category lists the games that achieve widescreen support by editing variables within the Windows Registry. Extreme care should always be taken before editing the registry. More detailed information can be found the Registry (Widescreen method) article.

Hack

This category consists of games that require 3rd Party programs to enable widescreen support. These may be program such as Art Money, utilities from Racer_S, or our very own UniWS (from the WSGF). More details can be found in the Hack (Widescreen method) article.

None

A game whose widescreen method is "None" is a game with no widescreen support. Members of the forum have researched options for adding widescreen support (registry keys, .ini, console, hack, etc.), and nothing has been found.
